Uli Driscoll in Trouble-My Early Chapter Book Series

Hey everyone!! So I haven't blogged in awhile--not my usual. Why? You ask. Well because I was finishing my EARLY CHAPTER BOOK, yes I illustrated it and wrote it. I had a couple requests to submit directly to editors, so I wanted to get the dummy finished. A dummy is a sample that artist/illustrators do to show the book to prospective agents, editors and art directors. While some may do a rough book dummy, I did mine in full color. I am happy to make revisions, but I am super happy with how it turned out! Here are some photos, and actually some of the text has already changed since I made the watermarked images below. :) Wish  me luck!! I have worked really hard on this series and I am hoping to sell it to a major this year.

Be Happy-the Process for MATS Wall Art Assignment

So I got a few messages from fellow Matsians (people in my MATS A class) about this today-yes it is digital-I did scan in tissue paper-but my scanner is on the Fritz so I pieced it together in Photoshop. I drew the owl in Sketchbook-just the black outline with the pen tool-it's like a Sharpie, then I painted it in PAINTER using gouache, digital watercolor and water color-then I brought it over to photoshop where I layered everything-all my scanned in pieces. Then I painted in Photoshop with airbrush and regular paint brush-with multiple on. Some of the images are from photos I took with my iPhone of stuff in my apt as well. I brought them into Photoshop as well. :) Then when it was all done, I brought it back to Sketchbook pro did the lettering and then used magazine clipping art to do the colors in the words.

F.O.X. in MATS A!

This week we have been doing foxes. I have tons of different ideas and designs. One thing that I always do is start with a  page of SKETCHES...usually more realistic before I go to cartoony. Here are all my sketches from the mini assignment!

New Design for MATS A

We got the mini assignment to do succulents, I did these designs late Monday night. :)

Succulents for MATS A

Today I decided to really do some sketching for the mini assignment in MATS A with Lilla Rogers. These were really fun. I sketched them in Sketchbook Pro. (Best program for sketching)

More on MARCH Bootcamp-PATTERNS

So if you look down to my post a couple days ago you can see how different this turned out. Yesterday Lilla gave us a fun assignment and a new color palette to work with. This top design is the final I turned it. I am really loving this class, it's great!!                                                 A mock-up I did last night for fun.                                                                           Just the nighty Just the pattern                           Same idea with some small changes-this one printed really nicely.                 ...

MATS Bootcamp March---JELLO

Hi everyone so as you know I am taking what they call Make Art That Sells from Lilla Rogers Studio . I love it.  I am in the bootcamp now-which runs 6 months and on March 31st I am starting the full MATS A course. I can't wait. I love learning new things to do with my art. Here are some sketches that I did this week for the mini assignment. I did them using mixed media-markers, Sketchbook Pro, Painter and just plain pencils. I hope you like them!
