Stephanie's Drawings

Omg it's the last day of July! Things are getting really busy for me and I am very excited about all of them. The first thing happening starting tomorrow is the SCBWI summer conference in Los Angeles, which is SOLD OUT! If you don't know, the SCBWI is the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. I do both, professionally. I have illustrated about 18 books now and written a few picture books for a mobile app company I worked for in 2012/2013 called FarFaria. I am currently pitching my early chapter book series entitled Uli Driscoll in Trouble, and will have a dummy at the conference attached to my portfolio. I am currently taking a revision workshop to finally get Ryuan - my then YA, now MG series into better shape. I worked on a new design for the collage assignment in MATS. This is so much fun!

So I got a few messages from fellow Matsians (people in my MATS A class) about this today-yes it is digital-I did scan in tissue paper-but my scanner is on the Fritz so I pieced it together in Photoshop. I drew the owl in Sketchbook-just the black outline with the pen tool-it's like a Sharpie, then I painted it in PAINTER using gouache, digital watercolor and water color-then I brought it over to photoshop where I layered everything-all my scanned in pieces. Then I painted in Photoshop with airbrush and regular paint brush-with multiple on. Some of the images are from photos I took with my iPhone of stuff in my apt as well. I brought them into Photoshop as well. :) Then when it was all done, I brought it back to Sketchbook pro did the lettering and then used magazine clipping art to do the colors in the words.

This week we have been doing foxes. I have tons of different ideas and designs. One thing that I always do is start with a  page of SKETCHES...usually more realistic before I go to cartoony. Here are all my sketches from the mini assignment!

We got the mini assignment to do succulents, I did these designs late Monday night. :)

Today I decided to really do some sketching for the mini assignment in MATS A with Lilla Rogers. These were really fun. I sketched them in Sketchbook Pro. (Best program for sketching) 

The final assignment that I handed in for MATS A Bolt Fabric. I am learning so much. I wanted to keep this in my style. I really love this class!! 

Hi everyone!! Today is day 3 of MATS A or Make Art That Sells course A-there is A and B. OMG I am loving this class so much. I have been in bootcamp since Feb, and I am lucky that I am slow workwise, I spent the entire day on this. I researched colors, went to Mood and then I came home and took my old sketch (from Monday) and went over it in Illustrator and played with colors, then I decided to add the bird. The black is just so you can see the swatches, cuz I like this design on white or super light bg. This is so much fun!!  www.lillarogers.com

Today is the first day of Make Art That Sells with Lilla Rogers.  http://lillarogers.com/ And this morning I did some painting in water colors for the fruit part and then this afternoon I did some sketching in Sketchbook Pro for the other part, this is really fun!!
