New Class Work - Illustrating Children's Books

These are class assignments for my Make Art That Sells Illustrating Children's Books class that I'm in with Lilla Rogers and art director Zoe Tucker.  It's really fun to do something like this not for work but just for my portfolio.

My Submission for April MATS

Fun in the Sea~New Artwork!

For Make Art That Sells last month we had a nautical theme! Well as you know I love children's art, so that is what I did. Here are my four pieces, which are now available to buy from me as well via my website. http://www.stepholivieri.com/#!prints/c1qno Thanks for swinging by! What would you draw if you had this assignment? I'd love to hear! Cheers and have a super, super, day!

Be Happy-the Process for MATS Wall Art Assignment

So I got a few messages from fellow Matsians (people in my MATS A class) about this today-yes it is digital-I did scan in tissue paper-but my scanner is on the Fritz so I pieced it together in Photoshop. I drew the owl in Sketchbook-just the black outline with the pen tool-it's like a Sharpie, then I painted it in PAINTER using gouache, digital watercolor and water color-then I brought it over to photoshop where I layered everything-all my scanned in pieces. Then I painted in Photoshop with airbrush and regular paint brush-with multiple on. Some of the images are from photos I took with my iPhone of stuff in my apt as well. I brought them into Photoshop as well. :) Then when it was all done, I brought it back to Sketchbook pro did the lettering and then used magazine clipping art to do the colors in the words.

F.O.X. in MATS A!

This week we have been doing foxes. I have tons of different ideas and designs. One thing that I always do is start with a  page of SKETCHES...usually more realistic before I go to cartoony. Here are all my sketches from the mini assignment!

ARGH!! Pirate Baby Apparel- For Fun

I am in the A MATS not MATS B, so I didn't get this assignment, but I decided to try it anyhow.

Wednesday MATS A Class!

Hi everyone!! Today is day 3 of MATS A or Make Art That Sells course A-there is A and B. OMG I am loving this class so much. I have been in bootcamp since Feb, and I am lucky that I am slow workwise, I spent the entire day on this. I researched colors, went to Mood and then I came home and took my old sketch (from Monday) and went over it in Illustrator and played with colors, then I decided to add the bird. The black is just so you can see the swatches, cuz I like this design on white or super light bg. This is so much fun!!  www.lillarogers.com

New Stuff for MATS A Class

Today is the first day of Make Art That Sells with Lilla Rogers.  http://lillarogers.com/ And this morning I did some painting in water colors for the fruit part and then this afternoon I did some sketching in Sketchbook Pro for the other part, this is really fun!!

MATS March Bootcamp Gallery

Yay I am sooo excited to see my work in the MATS Bootcamp gallery. This month was bolt fabric patterns. I created about 10 and chose this one to submit because I ended up falling in love with it. I am also trying to create a pattern style that is very similar to my children's book work. Here is the link to see the whole gallery-I am on the first page, but there is tons of great work. I am brand new to this, so I get inspired every day by all the amazing talent in this group. And yes I signed up for MATS A starting on Monday! http://bootcamp.lillarogers.com/bootcamp-march-2014-gallery/
